More about Pilates
Pilates is a movement-based exercise suitable for all ages and abilities. It focuses on strengthening core muscles that are often very weak and under-used.
Weak core muscles can often lead to stresses and strains in larger ‘global’ muscles that have to cope with much higher demands than they were intended.
Pilates is particularly recommended to correct poor posture, which increases the risk of joints wearing away much earlier than they would otherwise, and again stresses and strains developing. Overall these familiar symptoms can make us feel as if we are ageing prematurely. By addressing such weaknesses Pilates can make you feel younger, improve your balance, improve bone density and much more.
I supply special pilates mats and various small equipment for all my students. All you need to bring is yourself, and remember to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
I run friendly small group classes, with sizes usually between 6 and 12. It is important to keep pilates classes small, to ensure I can give adequate attention to every student. This is especially important for Pilates, where many of the movements can be done incorrectly if not supervised by a properly qualified teacher.
